PEACE, BE STILL

Mark 4:39

The storm did not gradually fade. At His command, it stopped.

Peace, Be Still captures one of the most dramatic moments in the Gospels — Christ standing against the violence of the storm as wind and water rage around Him.

The disciples had believed they were going to perish. Waves crashed over the boat, fear overwhelmed them, and yet Christ rose and spoke three words into the chaos:

“Peace, be still.”

What follows is extraordinary. Scripture tells us that the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

The work captures the tension between those two worlds — the power of the storm and the greater authority of Christ. His commanding presence forms the heart of the composition, surrounded by turbulent water, dramatic light and the vast movement of the sky.

Yet beneath the spectacle lies something deeply personal.

We all know what it is to face storms we cannot control — moments when fear becomes louder than faith and circumstances appear greater than our ability to endure them.

Peace, Be Still is a reminder that peace does not always begin when the storm disappears. Sometimes it begins when we remember who is with us in it.

“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still.”
